Historical Course

The name of RİZE-ÇAYELİ (Mapavri, as it is called in the Ottoman period) comes from the root  “Mapabra” (Mother Goddess Water) of the antique age.
Our hotel is located in the Limanköy (antique age name “ARKOTIR) site of the district Çayeli.

Rize district which was ruled by Pontus Kingdom in early ages has gone under control of Selcuklu Empire’s rule at the end of 11th century, later in 1204 it has gone under the control of The Greek Pontus Empire.

During this period, Rize has been among the trade centers of  Venetian and Genoese traders. In 1461, with the demolition of the Pontus Empire by FATİH SULTAN MEHMET, Rize has been included into Ottoman Empire’s lands.

Nowadays

We were born and grown up on this lands. As our poet Servet ÇOMOĞLU from Çayeli says "Money earning or education effort sent us away from our homeland” .  Many of us settled to Istanbul in order to run business activities.

Our willing to pay our adherence to the lands where we have born and to transfer that spiritual treasure to the following generations, building of Eastern Blacksea Highway, development of highlands tourism in Eastern Blacksea, and the supporting insistence of the Mayor of Çayeli Mr. Riza Cakir  as “ you will be leaving a memory to your homeland, meantime it will help to the local development and employment in the region” have all been the keystones of this beautiful hotel.

The name of our hotel LAZLAKAR comes from a highland’s name, which has been subject to many poems . HOTEL LAZLAKAR will hopefully serve to our esteemed guests forever as a warm hearth and home in Eastern Black Sea.
